Recalled 86-inch TVs sold by Amazon, Costco, Walmart and others might tip over
Some people have their televisions on stands because they don’t trust wall mounting. LG Eletronics recalled 56,700 86-inch SmartTVs sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico because you can’t trust the stands.
“The TV can become unstable while on the assembled stand, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to children and others,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice states.
LG knows of unstable TVs tipping over 12 times and 10 other reports of “TV stand instability.”
This covers model Nos. 86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD, and 86NANO75UQA with serial numbers that begin with 202RM, 203RM, 204RM, 205RM, 206RM, 207RM, or 208RM. If you can’t get to the spot with the serial number, press the “mute” button on the LG remote three times rapidly.
LG wants consumers who have these TVs on stands to take the stands off and put the TVs somewhere away from kids. Then, reach out to LG to learn how to inspect the TV, get replacement screws and parts and technician help on a free repair.
To contact LG for that or to get questions answered, either go to the website; text “STAND” to 256-888-9977; call 800-243-0000, Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Eastern time; or email at 86inchTVstand@lge.com.
