Peanut butter and hot chocolate K-cups recalled for possible ‘serious’ issue

Replacement flavoring caused a food allergy danger and the recall of two years of peanut butter and hot chocolate K-cups by Corim Industries.

The K-cups might have peanut, which isn’t declared as an allergen because even the peanut butter-flavored K-cups usually don’t have actual peanut. This change isn’t a problem for most people. But, as Cormin’s recall notice says, “people who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the following products.”

Those products recalled are:

Cocoa de Aroma, Peanut Butter flavor, 24-count packs

Cocoa de Aroma Hot Chocolate
Cocoa de Aroma Hot Chocolate FDA

Smart Sips, Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate, 24-count packs

Box of recalled Smart Sips k-cups
Box of recalled Smart Sips k-cups FDA

Jersey Charm, Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate, 24-count packs

Recalled Jersey Charm Peanut Butter and Hot Chocolate k-cups
Recalled Jersey Charm Peanut Butter and Hot Chocolate k-cups FDA

Terrace Coffee, 12-count packs

Terrace Cafe Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate k-cups
Terrace Cafe Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate k-cups FDA

All lots with best by dates from Jan. 11, 2023 through Jan. 11, 2025 are in this recall.

“A replacement flavoring ingredient from a different supplier may have trace levels of peanut that was not declared on bulk label or finished product label to downstream partners,” the Corim-written, FDA-posted recall notice said. “However, testing conducted by Corim indicated that the levels may be below the limit of detection. The firm’s subsequent investigation identified the root cause as a temporary breakdown in the company’s supplier documentation process.”

If there’s no shot someone with a peanut allergy will use this product, keep it and use it. If there’s even a minuscule chance someone with a peanut allergy will use the K-cup, return it to the store for a full refund.

If you have questions, call Corim at 732-840-1670, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
