65,000 vacuum cleaners recalled after some started fires and caused human burns

A vacuum cleaner designed to clean up messes wet or dry shouldn’t threaten to burn you or your home. That’s why Bissell on Thursday recalled about 65,300 Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuums.

As the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall alert stated: “The circuit board inside the vacuum’s battery pack can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard.”

The alert says Bissell has received 66 reports of the vacuum “smoking and emitting a burning odor.” The battery pack caught on fire in five of those instances, “three of which resulted in minor property damage and one resulting in a burn injury.”
