Chocolate Christmas calendars that might have salmonella got recalled in 9 states
An edible Christmas calendar that has chocolate and cream-filling has been recalled from Lidl supermarkets in nine states and Washington, D.C., after the chain’s testing found salmonella.
The supermarket chain’s FDA-posted recall notice said “routine testing” found salmonella in Favorina’s Advent Calendar (Premium Chocolate with a Creamy Filling). They were sold from Oct. 12 through Monday at Lidl’s stores in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
If you have the calendars, which have a best by date of 2023 and a UPC No. of 4056489516965, return them to any Lidl store for a full refund. If you have questions about this recall, phone Lidl at 844-747-5435, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Eastern time.
Salmonella infects 1.35 million Americans each year, according to the CDC. Of that group, it hospitalizes about 26,500 and kills 420. Most at risk for the worst effects are senior citizens, children under 5 and those with damaged immune systems. Most people get fever, vomiting, stomachaches and diarrhea that starts around 12 to 72 hours after eating the tainted food and runs for four to seven days.
