A contamination that can be ‘life-threatening’ gets a drug recalled from CVS, Navarro

One lot of a CVS laxative has been pulled after testing found contamination that could lead to infection.

CVS Health Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution Lemon Flavor has been recalled from CVS and Navarro Pharmacy stores because of Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens bacteria.

“Immunocompromised patients who consume this product may be at increased risk for invasive infections caused by Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens that could lead to serious, life-threatening adverse health consequences,” said the FDA-posted recall notice from manufacturer Vi-Jon.

The notice said said CVS requested the testing of a first production sample of the constipation remedy.

This covers lot No. 0556808 with expiration date 12/2023 on the 10-ounce bottles. They were sold at CVS stores nationwide and Navarro stores in Florida.

If you have this laxative, return it to the store for a refund.
