Here’s why about 2,205 pounds of world famous Skyline Chili were recalled nationwide

About 3,360 10.5-ounce cans of Skyline Original Chili have been recalled because what’s inside the can bears no resemblance to the world famous chili out of Cincinnati.

Or, actually, out of Austin, Indiana’s Morgan Foods, which made the recall. A USDA recall alert says consumers “reported to the company that the cans labeled as chili contained cream of chicken soup.”

An obvious annoyance to anyone whose mouth was ready for chili, but this is a Class 1 recall because the cream of chicken soup has milk, wheat and soy and the chili doesn’t. That makes what’s in the can a possibly major problem for people allergic to those undeclared allergens.

The cans went to stores nationwide. They have lot No. L2121 and product code CHC8T UPY on the bottom of the can with a best by date of Dec. 21, 2023. They’re packed in trays with an expiration date of Dec. 21, 2024.

If you’re good with popping open what should be a can of chili and finding cream of chicken soup, do nothing. If it’s a problem, especially a food allergy problem, return the can to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumer questions about the recall can be answered by Wordsmith Communications’ Bridget Castellini at 513-515-9673 or bcastellini@wordsworthweb.com.
