Uninspected chicken bologna sent to prisons recalled. Officials urge not to serve it

More than 1,000 pounds of fully cooked chicken bologna sent to prisons has been recalled due to a lack of inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.
On Friday, Erie Meat Products, an importer in Ontario, Canada, recalled about 1,224 pounds of chicken bologna products imported into the United States that was not reinspected by the USDA’s inspection service.
The chicken bologna products were imported around Nov. 15. The shipment consisted of 24-pound cases each containing 12, two-pound packages of Golden Maple Chicken Bologna, product code 91203. It had “best before” dates of April 13, 2023, April 18, 2023 and May 3, 2023.

The boxes were shipped to correctional institutions in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The problem was found during routine FSIS surveillance.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from eating the products. However, the USDA’s FSIS is concerned that some of the product may still be in freezers.
Officials urge institutions not to serve the chicken bologna and either throw it away or return it to where they purchased it. Anyone concerned about a reaction should reach out to a healthcare provider.
