Recalls

A hand sanitizer got recalled because there’s a concern that people will drink it

The 8-ounce bottles of American Screening Hand Sanitizer look enough like lunch pail/back pack bottles of water that American Screening is recalling 153,336 of them nationwide.

“The hand sanitizer is packaged in 8-ounce containers that resemble water bottle, posing a risk of consumption,” the company-written, FDA-posted recall notice says.

Previously, when the FDA has talked about deaths from hand sanitizers, it’s referred to people intentionally drinking hand sanitizers for the alcohol content. While American Screening’s hand sanitizer is 70% ethyl alcohol, it’s the fire hydrant-shaped bottle that prompted this recall.

If you’re confident nobody in your home or office will mistake this hand sanitizer for, say, Evian, continue on to the next story.

If you think someone might not be paying attention and take a swig, here’s the recall information: black capped bottles will have expiration dates 5/21/2022 and 5/24/2022 and white capped bottles will have no expiration dates.

You can return the hand sanitizer to the store or vendor who sold it to you for a full refund.
