Mayors from Miami-Dade head to Argentina for global C40 climate conference
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez are in Argentina for a world summit of mayors hosted by international climate organization C40 Cities.
The global network of mayors working on helping cities lower their carbon footprint is holding a three-day World Mayors Summit in Buenos Aires where leaders are expected to discuss how local governments can finance preparing cities for the impacts of climate change and sea level rise. Suarez and Levine Cava were scheduled to travel to the South American city overnight, and they are scheduled to participate in panel discussions and attend networking events Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Levine Cava plans to “share Miami-Dade County’s active resiliency efforts and return with ideas and best practices that will further assist the county in combating the effects of climate change and sea level rise,” a press release said.
Levine Cava is scheduled to participate in a discussion titled “United In Action To Confront The Climate Crisis” on Friday at the event’s main stage. She will be on the panel with Carolina Cosse, mayor of Montevideo, Uruguay, and Sharon Dijksma, mayor of Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Suarez is scheduled to join a panel discussion on Thursday titled “Cities as Hubs of Innovation: Sparking Collaborative Action to Achieve Net Zero.” He’ll join Marian Freire, chief technology officer for Microsoft Latinoamérica. He’s also expected to give a speech on “Resilience and Health” earlier in the day.
The full schedule is available here. The summit’s website will host a livestream of the event starting Thursday.
