See how your Miami-Dade neighborhood voted in Tuesday’s midterm election

Ron DeSantis secured his second term as Florida’s governor with a sweeping victory in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday night, defeating former Gov. Charlie Crist.

DeSantis won Miami-Dade by the largest margin of any Republican candidate in at least the last 40 years, and he’s the first Republican to take the county since former Gov. Jeb Bush did in 1998 and 2002.

DeSantis received more than 55% of the vote in Miami-Dade County, surpassing his 2018 performance by 16 points.

The governor made significant gains with the county’s Hispanic voters, winning about 65% of majority Hispanic precincts. DeSantis also overwhelmingly took Hispanic stronghold Hialeah with 78% of the vote.

DeSantis also won most majority white precincts in the county, and he more than doubled his share of votes in majority Black precincts compared to 2018, though he won only 16% of those precincts.

DeSantis joins other Republicans who secured victories across the state, including Sen. Marco Rubio, who will now serve his third term as one of Florida’s U.S. senators.

Rubio defeated U.S. Rep. Val Demings with about 54% of the vote in Miami-Dade County.

Rubio enjoyed similar gains across majority Hispanic precincts with about 65% of the votes from majority Hispanic precincts — about a 13-point improvement compared to his performance in 2016. He also won more than 79% of the vote in Hialeah.

Though Rubio’s performance in majority Black and majority white precincts closely mirrors that of DeSantis, he trails slightly in both with only 49% of the votes in majority white precincts and about 15% of votes in majority Black districts.

DeSantis’ and Rubio’s victories come at a time when registered Republicans outpace registered Democrats across the state. And with these wins, Florida has now become a decisively red state.
