Some voters plan to cast their ballot on Election Day in a midterm that can tint Florida more a shade of red.
Polls will close across Florida on Tuesday at 7 p.m. except in the Panhandle, where they’ll close at 8 p.m. due to differing time zones.
Here’s what to know — and expect — on election night in races for governor, Congress and municipal races.
What will we know on Election Night?
Unofficial results, for the most part, will be available on Election Night. That means we might know the projected winners of races that aren’t closely contested.
Local elections, like the Miami-Dade County Commission or city council races, may already be called unless there’s a tie or the margins are too close.
What won’t we know on Election Night?
Larger races, like the one for governor or U.S. senator, may not be called on Tuesday because votes across the state are counted or results are too close. Official election results may not be available until Wednesday.
The Associated Press, which is tabulating 130 contested races in Florida, will not call statewide races before polls close in the Panhandle.
When will election results come in Miami and the rest of Florida?
Miami-Dade election results will be available beginning at 7:15 p.m. on the county’s elections website.
Per Florida law, results of early and vote-by-mail ballots can be posted after polls close. Miami-Dade will count these ballots before Election Day precinct results. Vote-by-mail ballots turned in on Tuesday will be the final votes processed.
Broward election results will be available beginning at 7 p.m. on the county’s elections website.
Florida election results will be posted on the state’s election watch website after Panhandle polls close.
