What are the top priorities for the Miami-Dade mayor candidates? Here’s how they answered

On Nov. 3, Miami-Dade voters will elect a new county mayor.

The nonpartisan race has two sitting county commissioners running to succeed incumbent Carlos Gimenez, who must leave office due to the county’s term-limits rule and is running for Congress. Esteban “Steve” Bovo Jr. represents the Hialeah area from the District 13 seat he’s held since 2011, and Daniella Levine Cava represents South Miami-Dade from the District 8 seat she’s held since 2014.

Both candidates were asked a series of questions as part of the Miami Herald’s voter guide, which aims to help you decide which candidates you’ll vote for by mail, during early voting, or on Election Day.

Levine Cava and Bovo answered questions about social justice issues, the COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of affordable housing in Miami-Dade, public transit and climate change.
