Florida Senate President Ben Albritton hospitalized with blood clot in his lung
Florida Senate President Ben Albritton is in the hospital after doctors discovered a blood clot in his lung.
A spokesperson for Albritton said Monday that the Senate president has continued to speak with staff by phone and email.
Albritton, a Republican from Wauchula, felt chest pain Sunday morning and went to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s emergency room, where doctors discovered a “small blood clot” in his lungs, according to a statement from the Senate office. It said that all Senate business will continue as planned.
Albritton, 57, was kept in the hospital overnight and as of midday Monday was under observation awaiting some tests. The statement said he is in “good spirits.”
“He looks forward to returning to the office later this week,” a spokesperson for the office said in a statement. “The President and Mrs. Albritton would be very grateful for your prayers.”
The hospitalization came two weeks into the 2026 regular legislative session, which lasts 60 days.
