Trump to hold campaign rally in Doral. Will he announce Rubio as his running mate?

Donald Trump will rally supporters in Doral next week as he nears an announcement of his running mate pick, his campaign announced Wednesday.
The former president is set to deliver remarks at his Trump National Doral Miami golf club on Tuesday evening. While his campaign said that Trump’s comments will focus on President Biden’s policies — including the high cost of living in Republican-dominated Florida — the rally is likely to fuel speculation over his choice of running mate. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, a Miami native, is seen as a top contender for the Republican vice presidential slot.

Two people familiar with the former president’s plans told the Miami Herald that Trump isn’t expected to publicly announce his running mate at the Doral rally. Aside from Rubio, Trump is also reportedly considering other high-profile Republicans for the job, including U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
The rally in Doral, just about an hour drive south of Trump’s Palm Beach residence, comes as Trump and his allies pile on Biden following the president’s catastrophic showing in the first presidential debate last week.
Biden’s stumbling performance during the debate underscored long-simmering concerns among voters about the 81-year-old president’s age and ability to serve effectively in the White House.
While rank-and-file Democrats in Florida have largely stood behind the president in the wake of the debate, some lawmakers and donors have publicly argued that Biden should consider resigning the party’s presidential nomination to clear the way for a younger, more energetic candidate to challenge Trump.
Trump’s rally in Doral also comes less than a week before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wis. where the former president will be formally nominated for the GOP’s presidential ticket.
