For the third time, Donald Trump has made history for being the first president — current or former — to face criminal charges.

On Tuesday, Trump, who is seeking the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, was indicted in a D.C. federal court for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

In June, Trump was indicted in a Miami federal courthouse on charges of mishandling highly classified documents under the Espionage Act. Two months before, the former president was indicted in New York state court for allegedly falsifying business records in order to cover up hush money payments.
