Justice Ginsburg hospitalized with infection, Supreme Court says

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized Tuesday with a gallbladder infection, the U.S. Supreme Court said in a statement.

Ginsburg, 87, underwent a non-surgical treatment at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore for acute cholecystitis, a benign gallbladder condition, which was caused by a gallstone, the Associated Press reported. She is expected to stay for a day or two, according to the court’s statement.

She initially sought treatment Monday after she was diagnosed, AP reported.

Ginsburg is “resting comfortably” and plans to take part in oral arguments via teleconference Wednesday morning in the hospital, the court said.

The justice has been treated for cancer four times in the past, AP reported. Ginsburg was most recently treated in August.
