In the inaugural episode of the Miami Herald’s Café con Politics podcast, the Miami Herald’s political team breaks down the latest on David Beckham’s bid to build a soccer stadium in Miami.

Beckham and his partners, led by Miami businessman Jorge Mas, are lobbying Miami city commissioners to send their billion-dollar plan to redevelop Melreese Country Club before city voters in November. Commissioners could have done so Thursday, but instead — with Beckham sitting on a folding chair in the front row — spent hours squabbling amongst themselves over unresolved issues with the massive and fast-moving proposal.

They delayed a vote to July 18, setting up another week of drama.

Miami City Hall reporter Joey Flechas joined the podcast to discuss the hearing, the next steps for Beckham and his partners, and some key figures to watch ahead of the looming vote. Give it a listen.
