Princess Beatrice honors Queen Elizabeth as her daughter is born prematurely
Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are sharing the first look at their baby daughter.
According to a post shared on the Royal Family’s Instagram account, Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their daughter into the world on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 12:57 p.m.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter,” the post began.
The infant’s name also paid homage to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022.
Named Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, she was born “several weeks prematurely,” weighing just 4 pounds and 5 ounces, the BBC reported.
“The King and Queen, and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” the post continued. “Princess Beatrice and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.
“Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.”
Mapelli Mozzi shared his own statement as well, writing that “we are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her.”
“Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena,” the proud father continued. “A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”
Athena’s grandmother, Sarah Ferguson, added that she is “overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world.”
“She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team!”
Buckingham Palace first announced Beatrice was expecting a child on Oct. 1.
Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their first daughter, Sienna, into the world in 2021. Beatrice is also a stepmom to Mapelli Mozzi’s 8-year-old son, Wolfie.
