A boat with 27 Cubans trying to reach the United States was intercepted about 29 miles north of Cuba, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

After an HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew spotted what the Coast Guard called a “rustic vessel,” the Coast Guard Cutter Charles David Jr. out of Key West picked up the Cubans last Saturday.

As is procedure, they were given food, water and medical attention before being returned to Cuba on Thanksgiving Day.
