A 20-year-old man was slashed in the neck with a broken glass bottle near the New York Knicks' ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, police said.

The incident happened around 11:50 a.m. near 1 Centre Street as massive crowds gathered in lower Manhattan for one of the largest city celebrations in decades.

Authorities told Newsweek in a brief telephone call that the victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition. The altercation began after the man made an inappropriate comment to a woman, sparking a confrontation that escalated into violence, New York’s Pix 11 reported.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In addition, eight people were arrested earlier in the morning as crowds gathered near Broadway and Battery Place, though those arrests were not directly tied to the slashing and details on the charges were unclear, police said.
