New York's LaGuardia airport said on Thursday it had reopened a runway that was closed the previous evening to address a pavement issue, the second time in less than a month it has been forced to close a runway.

The airport said on Wednesday it would close the runway at 5 p.m. EDT (1700 GMT) after a two-inch depression adjacent to a runway was identified, forcing the closure so crews could conduct additional testing, identify the cause, and perform any stabilization work. The airport said shortly after 6:30 a.m. EDT (1030 GMT) on Thursday that the runway had reopened.

Last month, the busy airport was forced to close a runway for two days because of a runway sinkhole.
