Who Is Christopher Meithof? Father Abducts 5-Year-Old Daughter: Authorities
Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for a 5-year-old girl who was abducted by her father on Sunday, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
An AMBER Alert has been issued for Amaya Meithof, who was reportedly taken from a Carson City, Nevada, residence at approximately 4:36 a.m. Authorities believe she is with her father, 41-year-old Christopher Meithof whose last known address is listed in Federal Way, Washington. The suspect is thought to be traveling southbound toward Quartz Hill, California.
Suspect and Vehicle Information
Investigators are asking the public to look out for the suspect’s vehicle, described as a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Oregon license plate 576 QNU.
- Suspect Description: Meithof is described as 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
- Victim Description: Amaya Meithof was last seen wearing a blue princess nightgown. Officials noted she suffers from common allergies but is otherwise in good health.
According to public records reviewed by Newsweek, Christopher Meithof is currently on parole and has a prior criminal record, including convictions for burglary and weapons possession.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office confirmed he is the girl’s father, but did not have additional information to provide regarding the search for the pair midday Monday.
Family Appeals for Safe Return
The child's mother, Crystal Rose, made several emotional appeals on social media, urging the community to assist in the search.
“He came to visit her and took her and disappeared,” she wrote on Facebook. “I didn’t want it to come to this but this is not how we do things.”
The girls’ mother added: “Please share this post with everyone you know. Please help me bring my peachy home safe.”
Attempts to reach Meithof were unsuccessful midday Monday. Rose did not immediately return a message seeking additional comment.
