Registered sex offender breaks into woman’s home, tries raping her, PA cops say
A man who has been registered as a sex offender for 20 years broke into a woman’s home and tried to rape her, Pennsylvania authorities say.
The Bensalem Police Department said 45-year-old Louis Sophie entered the woman’s apartment Oct. 28 through her unlocked front door, then grabbed her.
As he began taking off his clothes, he told the victim she looked “tasty,” police said.
That’s when, investigators said, the woman screamed for help and began to fight Sophie off of him.
After Sophie fled the apartment, police said the victim “immediately” called 911, helping officers quickly arrive to the area.
Sophie was captured at a Sunoco gas station about two blocks away from the woman’s apartment, according to a news release. It was determined he was registered as a sex offender in Florida.
“Bensalem Police credit the victim for taking actions to defend herself and immediately dialing 9-1-1 to allow police to respond quickly and capture this predator,” authorities said.
Court records show Sophie was charged with two counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, simple assault and rape forcible compulsion.
Sophie has been designated as a sexual offender since 2005, when he was found guilty of possessing child porn, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Bensalem is about a 20-mile drive northeast from downtown Philadelphia.
