Win leaves lottery player ‘dumbfounded’ in MD. ‘Had never seen that many zeroes’

When a Maryland man buys a lottery ticket, he does not go about it hastily.

Instead, the Goldsboro man researches, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Oct. 16 news release.

And now, it’s paid off with a big prize.

The avid fisherman was browsing scratch-off tickets on the lottery website, looking for games that had prizes remaining, lottery officials said.

In doing his perusing, he came across $100,000 Cash, lottery officials said.

Then, when he went to a Centreville gas station to buy the ticket, the store’s owner also suggested the same ticket, lottery officials said.

“He believed he was one of the few retailers that was still carrying the ticket,” the player told lottery officials. “And that a big winner could be in his store.”

The man bought the $30 ticket, along with two more other tickets, lottery officials said, adding that “luck was definitely on his side.”

“The first two I scratched, I got my money back,” the winner said. “The third one was the $100,000 win… I was dumbfounded.”

The “shocked” player told lottery officials he “had never seen that many zeroes on a scratch-off prize ever.”

In addition to paying down some debt, the winner said he already has some other plans for his winnings.

“I’m going to go on a fishing trip and take my mom on a vacation,” he said.

Goldsboro is in eastern Maryland, near the Delaware border.
