Man punched girlfriend in the teeth, causing her to choke on blood in DC, feds say
A 22-year-old man in Washington, D.C., has been arraigned after being accused of attacking his girlfriend, leaving her with injuries that required her to have a wire placed to keep her teeth together, federal officials said.
In September 2024, Nyzir Miles got angry with his girlfriend while they were driving, then punched her in the face, according to a Sept. 18 news release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
Officials didn’t specify what led to the fight.
Hours later, Miles got angry again and took her cell phone away before punching her multiple times in the mouth, prosecutors said.
McClatchy News reached out to Miles’ defense attorney Sept. 19 and was awaiting a response.
The beating was so severe that the woman’s mouth started filling up with blood, causing her to choke and be unable to breathe, prosecutors said.
She was taken to Howard University Hospital, where doctors determined she had a dental fracture and multiple loose teeth, officials said.
Two months after the first attack, Miles attacked her again and prevented her from calling 911, officials said.
He was indicted Sept. 10 on charges of assault with significant bodily injury, simple assault, and obstructing, preventing or interfering with reports to or requests for assistance from law enforcement agencies, medical providers or child welfare agencies, officials said.
