A former high school teacher was arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a student, Connecticut officials said.

In June, police learned 38-year-old Jason Kymer, a teacher and coach at Shelton High School, sexually assaulted a 17-year-old student on school property, according to an Aug. 22 Facebook post by the Shelton Police Department.

The victim told officers that she had blocked Kymer’s number, but when she answered a call from an unknown number, it was Kymer saying, “Just do the right thing,” police said.

McClatchy News reached out to the school district on Aug. 25 for a statement and was awaiting a response.

Kymer was arrested on charges of sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and tampering with evidence, officers said. He was released on $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 25.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 203-924-1544, officials said.

Shelton is about a 10-mile drive west from New Haven.
