A man found his wife stabbed to death on the kitchen floor of their home, where he also encountered a stranger, California police told news outlets.

The husband called 911 shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, and said he had “found his wife in a pool of blood and a stranger inside his house,” National City police told KNSD.

The stranger ran upstairs after encountering the husband, police told KGTV.

When officers arrived, they saw a man flee the home by jumping from a second-story window, police told KFMB.

Officers chased him and eventually took him into custody, police told the news outlet.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead on scene, police told KUSI.

The man was arrested on a first-degree murder charge, jail records show.

McClatchy News is not naming the man as he has not been formally charged.

The 30-year-old man is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22, jail records show.

National City is about a 7-mile drive southeast from San Diego.
