Joyful dog neglected so badly, his body is permanently ‘askew.’ He needs a home
A dog named Slim is on the lookout for a new home in Philadelphia, one that gives him the warmth and love he clearly craves.
“Our hearts break for you every single day,” the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said in an Aug. 21 Facebook post. “When you arrived in March, you were so emaciated that nearly every bone in your body was visible. But something else was blatantly obvious - your neglect had been long-term, your body never able to recovery as it should.”
Slim Jim was brought in as a stray, and he had been so hungry that he had resorted to eating rubber bands and garbage, the shelter said in a June 20 post. They were able to track down Slim’s owner, who said he had not been to the vet.
When the 3 1/2-year-old dog was transferred to the Philadelphia shelter, he had “infections, intestinal parasites, Lyme disease, and painful arthritis,” the shelter said.
Because of his ailments and the owner’s failure to get him care, Slim’s body has been horribly affected.
“You are permanently off-center, your body askew. Shelter life must be hard on that fragile body, which appears much older than your 3 years of age,” the shelter said. “And while you might appear ‘wonky’ to some, you don’t let your limitations hold you back. You meet each day, and every person with pure boundless joy. You deserve the world.”
Nothing holds Slim back, and recently he appeared on NBC10 Philadelphia and was the shelter’s “Pet of the Week.”
