‘Gentle’ shelter cat greets everyone with soft purrs, but she can’t find a home
A beautiful cat who looks like she could be a Disney princess is in need of a home in Philadelphia — but despite her adoring looks and caring demeanor, she keeps getting overlooked.
Meet Bearberry, a precious 8-year-old black and orange beauty with majestically long whiskers and green eyes that will melt even the steeliest disposition. Despite all that, she hasn’t had to best of luck in the shelter she’s been living in.
“Bearberry is the sweetest girl, but she’s been passed by time and time again,” the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said in an Aug. 19 Facebook post.
“Every day, people stop to say hello to this beautiful cat, and every day she greets them the same way - soft purrs, gentle head butts, and all the love she has to give. She absolutely adores people and just wants someone to call her own.”
One thing that’s making it trickier to find Bearberry a new home is her medical condition.
“Bearberry is a special girl looking for a special home. She’s hyperthyroid and has a few other medical needs, but everything is well managed with medication and prescription food. She’s doing wonderfully in the shelter, but we know she would truly thrive in a home of her own,” the shelter said.
According to the Cornell Feline Health Center, hyperthyroidism might sound frightening, but it’s “a common disease in cats, and mostly afflicts cats middle-aged and older.” The symptoms can be managed with a variety of treatments, as the shelter said.
“What Bearberry really needs is someone with a big heart, someone willing to look past the ‘extra care’ and see her for who she truly is: a gentle, loving soul who deserves the world,” the shelter said.
