A New York woman was arrested after police say she assaulted a teenage girl who was arguing with her daughter.

McClatchy News is not naming the woman to protect the identity of her daughter.

Officers were called to Brentwood High School for reports of an assault on Aug. 12, according to a news release from Suffolk County police.

It started around 11 a.m. when a 14-year-old girl was exiting the school and got into an argument with a 15-year-old girl, police said.

The mother of the 15-year-old girl then hit the 14-year-old repeatedly with a Stanley cup, leaving her bloody, WNBC reported.

A video recorded by a bystander shows the girls arguing when the mother tells her daughter “give me your Stanley,” WABC reported.

“She threw a punch, beating me with a cup,” the girl told WNBC. She said she “saw blood all over my hands,”

The girl was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. She needed 17 stitches, news outlets reported.

The mother appeared in court Aug. 13, and her lawyer insisted it was her daughter who was being bullied and that’s what led to the mother coming to the school, WABC reported. The mom was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of child, police said.

The mother is due back in court Sept. 3.
