17-year-old shoots dad during argument about going to school, Indiana cops say
A 17-year-old is accused of shooting his father during an argument about school in Indiana.
James Seals Jr. is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and dangerous possession of a firearm, according to court records.
Attorney information for Seals was not available.
Seals was arrested Aug. 6, jail records show.
The arrest comes after the teen and his dad were arguing over whether Seals should go to school in person or online, WRTV reported.
The teen’s grandmother was at the home and told police she heard the commotion then saw Seals pointing two guns at his dad, WTHR reported. The father punched the teen and he dropped the guns, according to the outlet.
The grandmother said she picked up the guns and hid them before going into the bathroom, WTHR reported. She said she heard gunshots and when she came back out, she found Seals’ father, who is her son, bleeding and Seals holding another gun, according to the outlet.
Seals told her “I just shot your (expletive) son,” WRTV reported.
Seals ran to a nearby house, the outlet reported.
He told his grandfather, “I shot my dad. I told him if he ever put his hands on me again, I’d do that,” according to WTHR.
Police found a gun in the backyard of a nearby home, WRTV reported. When they searched Seals’ home, they found a 3D printer with gun parts and ammunition, according to the outlet.
Seals was given a $200,000 bond, court records show.
It’s unclear what the father’s condition is as of Aug. 12.
