Customer stabs bakery owners over wrong order from 4 years ago, NJ reports say
Two men in New Jersey are recovering after they say a man stabbed them over a wrong order from four years ago.
Abed Assad and his brother Mohammad are the owners of Baladna Bakery in Paterson, according to WNBC. On July 31, they opened the bakery for the day when shortly after they were attacked by a customer, the outlet reported.
The customer, who has not been named in reports, was upset over an order from four years ago, WABC reported.
“He said … ’She forgot to give me the hot dog.’ OK, take the hot dog and $3 and just leave. And he’s like ‘No, because I got a sandwich last time and they gave me some eggplant and I don’t like eggplant.’ He’s just looking for a problem,” Moneer Simrin, a friend of the victims, told WNBC. “They tried to tell him ‘Just leave, please.’ And he got the knife.”
Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh told PIX11 the customer was upset because he ordered an egg sandwich but got an eggplant sandwich instead.
Simrin told WABC he overheard the customer saying the sandwich made his stomach hurt.
Then, the customer stabbed one of the men in the arm and the other in the chest, police told PIX11. Both were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Surveillance footage showed the customer running away from the bakery.
Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Paterson Police Department Major Crimes unit at 973-321-1120.
