Anglers helped find a missing man after they heard someone yelling for help, deputies said.

The 42-year-old disappeared after a family birthday party at about 7 p.m. July 27 in the Kingman Wash area at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue said in an Aug. 3 news release.

His family couldn’t find him, so they “left a few supplies behind for him before leaving the area,” deputies said.

When they hadn’t heard from him by noon the next day, they reported him missing to the National Park Service.

But that message was never forwarded to the sheriff’s office, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office search team was helping a stranded 60-year-old at the lake near Bonelli Bay on July 29 when they got the call about the missing man.

Anglers on the lake’s shoreline had heard a man yelling for help and asking for water, so they reported it to authorities.

Rescuers responded to the Kingman Wash area and made “verbal contact” with him before finding him on a steep hill with no shirt, shoes or water, deputies said.

They gave him water and electrolytes and transported him on a boat to the Nevada side of the lake, where he was met with medical responders, deputies said.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area spans across Arizona and Nevada, near Las Vegas.
