‘Bags full of stolen mail’ found inside passed out man’s car, California cops say
A man was arrested after he was found with “bags full of stolen mail” inside his car, California police say.
Officers responded to a report about a man passed out at a Fairfield home shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13, the Fairfield Police Department said in a July 15 Facebook post.
After the man was identified, officers learned the man was “on probation with a search clause,” police said.
While searching the man’s car, officers found a “significant quantity of stolen items,” police said.
The stolen items included about “four bags full of stolen mail, stolen packages, stolen license plates, stolen identification cards, fraudulent checks and a credit card maker,” according to police.
Most of the stolen items were from Santa Clara County, police said.
Given “the volume of evidence,” additional officers responded to help with the investigation, police said.
As officers interviewed the man, “he confessed to his crimes,” police said.
The man was arrested and booked into jail “on multiple charges related to fraud and mail theft,” according to police.
McClatchy News reached out to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office on July 17 and is awaiting a response on formal charges.
Fairfield is about a 50-mile drive northeast from San Francisco.
