A 2-year-old died days after getting entangled in window blinds at a hotel, Alabama police said.

The boy, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as Kiere DeAndre Jaden Daniels, Jr., was staying at a Hampton Inn in Birmingham with his family, who was visiting from Michigan, WBRC reported.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of this young child and offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones at this difficult time,” a spokesperson for Hilton, the chain’s corporate office, told McClatchy News in a July 15 email.

The property where the incident happened is independently owned, the spokesperson said.

He was taken to a hospital July 4 after being found unresponsive in the hotel room, AL.com reported. He died six days later at the hospital.

The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the incident, and foul play is not expected, WVTM reported.
