A Detroit bus driver is accused of stabbing a passenger during an argument about the fare, Michigan police said.

Troy Lincoln, a 55-year-old worker for the Detroit Department of Transportation, was charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault, the Wayne County prosecutor’s office said in a July 4 news release.

DDOT declined a request for comment from McClatchy News on the arrest of Lincoln.

Lincoln was operating a local bus on July 1 when he got into an argument with a 25-year-old passenger over the fare, Detroit Police Asst. Chief Charles Fitzgerald said in a news conference posted by WJBK.

The passenger spit on the bus driver as the argument escalated, then Lincoln pulled out a knife and stabbed him, Fitzgerald said. The man suffered lacerations to the left side of his abdomen and the right side of his face, according to prosecutors.

He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, prosecutors said. The bus driver was arrested shortly after.

A judge set Lincoln’s bond at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.
