A Virginia man was convicted in the 2023 death of a 17-year-old shot during a gun sale robbery outside of a community pool, officials said.

Jordan Sickles, 23, was found guilty of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and robbery resulting in death, Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Amy Ashworth said in a June 18 news release.

“While this verdict is an important step in holding the defendant accountable, it does nothing to alleviate the pain of losing a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend,” Ashworth said in the release.

According to officials, Sickles shot Roberto Martinez Inglis in the parking lot of a community pool in Woodbridge, about a 20-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Inglis shot in the head and hand, officials said.

Security footage from the pool showed three people — including Sickles — get out of a car and get into another car Inglis was driving before a gunshot went through the windshield, officials said.

The three people then got back into the other car and drove away quickly, according to officials, who said the meetup was a planned gun sale that turned into a robbery.

Police later found stolen, blood-stained money from the shooting during a search warrant, officials said.

Sickles is set to be sentenced Oct. 10, officials said.

“You were part of the reason for my waking up each morning,” Stephannie Inglis, Roberto Inglis’ mom, said in an online memorial. “... The love you had in your heart for everyone, especially your brother, and your positive way of thinking/being always amazed me; you were (and still are) such a beautiful soul.”

According to an obituary, Inglis enjoyed football and had plans to join the Air Force.
