A 26-year-old man was attacked, robbed and run over by a car when he tried to help a woman who was being robbed, Virginia police said.

Now, police said they are searching for three suspects.

Officers responded to reports of an assault at about 5:30 a.m. June 16 in Woodbridge, the Prince William County Police Department said in a news release.

According to an investigation, the man saw multiple men try to take an acquaintance’s belongings, so he stepped in to help, police said.

But the men attacked him and flashed a firearm before robbing him, according to police.

Then, a driver ran over him while he was on the ground and took off with the group of men, police said.

The 26-year-old was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

“The investigation continues as officers attempt to identify the suspects,” police said.

Woodbridge is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C.
