Man peed ‘too close’ to another man’s car, then killed him, DC officials say
A man is accused of peeing near another man’s car outside a food market and then fatally beating him, Washington, D.C., officials said.
Alvin Alexis Cruz Garcia, now 27, was convicted of one count of second-degree murder while armed in the 2021 killing of Ramon Gomez Yanez, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Columbia announced in a June 9 news release.
The guilty verdict came after a four-day jury trial, officials said.
McClatchy News reached out to Cruz Garcia’s attorney for comment June 10 and was awaiting a response.
Gomez, 38, was a regular at Ogden Market and shopped there March 23, 2021, officials said.
He went outside to find Cruz Garcia “standing on the sidewalk and urinating much too close to the back of” his vehicle, according to officials.
There was an “exchange of words,” officials said, and Cruz Garcia punched Gomez “down to the ground.”
“While Mr. Gomez was down on the sidewalk, the defendant kicked and punched Mr. Gomez multiple times in the head area, and then just walked away,” officials said.
Gomez died at the scene from injuries to his head and neck, according to officials.
Cruz Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
