Waffle House cook convicted of beating, choking customer, Georgia prosecutors say
A Waffle House cook accused of attacking a customer could spend decades behind bars, Georgia prosecutors told news outlets.
Marco Sharpe was found guilty of aggravated battery on April 21, almost three years after the July 2022 assault at a Waffle House in Pooler, the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office told news outlets.
Sharpe was employed as a line cook when authorities said he got into an argument with a customer, WJCL reported citing court documents. Authorities didn’t say what sparked the dispute.
Sharpe attacked the 57-year-old man, beating him and choking him, despite his co-workers’ attempts to intervene, prosecutors told the station.
Authorities said the victim was attacked “to the point he stopped breathing,” according to WTOC. The man was hospitalized for nearly a month and suffered multiple brain bleeds, the station reported, citing prosecutors.
McClatchy News reached out to the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office for more information May 1 and was awaiting a response.
Sharpe will be sentenced on May 8 and faces up to 20 years in prison, the DA’s office said, as reported by WSAV.
Pooler is about a 10-mile drive northwest from downtown Savannah.
