Mega Millions player wins $2 million. Where in the US was the lucky ticket sold?
A Mega Millions player just missed the jackpot — but still won a prize worth celebrating in Virginia.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the April 29 drawing, making it worth $2 million, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 16-33-40-51-57, with gold Mega Ball 10.
So, where did the player win big? The lucky ticket was sold at the Chester Food Mart convenience store in Chester, a roughly 15-mile drive south from downtown Richmond, the Virginia Lottery wrote in a news release.
The player is set to get richer after their ticket matched all the white balls. The ticket also was one number from scoring the jackpot prize, which stood at $70 million the night of the drawing, according to the Mega Millions website.
No one hit the jackpot, so the game’s top prize rises to an estimated $80 million. The next drawing is scheduled for Friday, May 2.
In Virginia, lottery players have about six months to claim Mega Millions prizes.
“The Virginia Lottery advises that before doing anything else, the winner should immediately sign the back of the ticket to establish ownership,” officials wrote, adding that it’s best for the winner to reach out to the lottery before cashing in.
