A Mega Millions player won a life-changing prize — but hasn’t claimed it yet.

Now, the $1 million ticket is just weeks from expiring in late May, the Virginia Lottery said in an April 24 news release.

Months ago, the lottery player bought a lucky ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Nov. 22 drawing. Though the player scored the largest Mega Millions prize in the country that night, their ticket was one number from winning the $453 million jackpot, according to the game’s website.

The winning numbers: white balls 13-20-26-32-65, with gold Mega Ball 2.

The $1 million ticket matched all the white balls picked in the drawing. It was sold at the 7-Eleven convenience store in Deltaville, a roughly 70-mile drive east from Richmond, lottery officials said.

In Virginia, Mega Millions players have about six months to come forward. But now, time is running out, given the deadline to cash in at a lottery office is 5 p.m. May 21.

“Unclaimed prizes, by law, go to Virginia’s Literary Fund, which provides low-interest loans to localities for public school construction, renovations and technology upgrades,” officials wrote. “Whoever has the winning ticket should contact the Virginia Lottery immediately.”

What to know about Mega Millions

To score the jackpot in the Mega Millions, a player must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball. The odds of scoring a jackpot prize are 1 in 290,472,336.

Tickets cost $5 and can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.

Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
