‘Resilient’ rescue dog has ‘overcome so much.’ Now, she needs a home
A “resilient” rescue dog has “overcome so much” — and now, she needs a home.
Lady Godiva was found in rough shape in Charlotte County, Virginia. She was “nothing more than skin and bone” when she landed at the Lynchburg Humane Society in desperate need of help, the shelter wrote in Facebook posts.
“When Lady Godiva first arrived she was starving,” Sydnee Tran, social media and marketing coordinator for the shelter, told McClatchy News in an April 18 email. “She was kind and soulful but you could tell how exhausted and weak she was because she moved at a sluggish pace.”
The 4-year-old pup also had “scars on her head and open scratches and scrapes on her nose and ears.” The shelter said it didn’t know how long she had been without food and medical care, so it helped her right away.
As Lady Godiva started a meal plan, more of her personality showed. She has become known for her “sweet” and curious nature.
“Like your typical hound she loves to sniff and explore the outdoors, but she’s also super interested in the people around her,” Tran wrote. “When she isn’t on a walk you can find cozied up in her (bed) people watching. She’s been such a pleasure to care for and we can’t wait until she finds a loving home.”
Now, two months after her rescue, Lady Godiva has gained 15 pounds. Her painful wounds also have healed as she gets ready to kick off her next chapter.
As of April 23, the shelter’s website listed Lady Godiva among the animals in need of new owners. Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at lynchburghumane.org.
“Her once vulnerable and wounded spirit is now resilient and strong,” the shelter wrote. “For maybe the first time, Lady has received the care, and perhaps love, she deserves. Now it’s time for the next step in her journey to happiness.”
Lynchburg is a roughly 55-mile drive east from Roanoke.
