A Virginia man was arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy who was found fatally shot outside of a grocery store, deputies said.

Officers responded to what was originally reported as a stabbing outside of a Harris Teeter in Ashburn at about 6 p.m. April 12, according to an April 14 Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The boy, who deputies did not identify, was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts, according to the release.

Deputies said they learned the boy had been shot at a nearby apartment complex and then brought to the grocery store parking lot. The person who brought the boy to the store was not a suspect, deputies said.

Fadlalla Mohamed, 19, was identified as the shooter and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This was a brutal crime and is a tragedy for this young man’s family,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said in the release.

Mohamed was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond, deputies said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Ashburn is about a 30-mile drive northwest from Washington, D.C.
