The Walmart employee accused in a shooting spree that killed two colleagues and injured a third has died, according to officials in Georgia and South Carolina.

Dwayne Eduh, 24, fled after the shootings inside the Covington, Georgia, supercenter on Friday, April 11, and later engaged deputies in a standoff in Aiken, South Carolina, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

It ended when local authorities said Eduh killed himself, The State reported.

He was hospitalized in critical condition but died Sunday, April 13, a sheriff’s office spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.

Deputies were called about a shooting at the Walmart at about 1:30 Friday morning, according to a news release. The store had closed for the night but multiple workers were still inside.

The suspected shooter, later identified as Eduh, left the store, returned with a gun and fatally shot a co-worker, deputies said. He then shot a second male colleague, who was critically injured.

A short time later, authorities said Eduh broke into a home and shot a third co-worker, killing her.

Deputies identified the deceased victims as:

  • Khalaf Barksdale, 21, of Conyers

  • Akeela Clarke, 19, of Covington

Ryan Bradley, 29, of Covington, was critically injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital, deputies said. He was later listed in stable condition, per the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said the accused shooter and victims were Walmart employees.

Authorities haven’t addressed a possible motive and said the shootings are under investigation.

Covington is about a 30-mile drive southeast from downtown Atlanta.
