Is this ex-jail-turned-home for sale cool? Or does it make Alcatraz feel ‘cozy?’
A peculiar house on the real estate market in Ozark, Arkansas, is drawing attention thanks to its bizarre conversion — it was once a jailhouse.
And yes, the prisoner cells still are the home’s main theme.
“This renovated 1914 built jailhouse in Ozark, AR on the Arkansas River seamlessly blends its past with the comforts of modern living,” the listing on Zillow says.
Listed for $600,000, the home has “undergone a complete transformation” where the cell blocks have been transformed into bedrooms and the furniture has a coastal feel, the listing says.
While some will see potential, folks on a popular Facebook page are a little more on the confused side of things when it comes to the interior. Zillow Gone Wild is a social media page that highlights unique properties on the market all around the country, and this particular house has been spotlighted.
“Not if it were the last rehabbed jail on Earth, honey,” one person said.
“Even Alcatraz feels cozy and less horror-movie-ish than this place,” another joked.
“Lovely, except for the train noise and annual risk of flooding,” someone noted.
“This could work by adding a few area rugs,” one person commented.
“That is awesome. So much character and I could have some great conversations with the ghosts!” another offered.
“Everyone here that hates it probably have all grey walls in their modern cookie cutter houses. I think it is kind of neat,” someone said.
“As someone who lives near it, it’s beautiful! It’s nearly 40 ft above the river so no flooding has ever happened, the train runs daily so that is very loud,” one person commented.
Other features in 2,512-square-foot house, per the listing, include:
River views
Rooftop patio
Updated chef’s kitchen
Close to everything.
Ozark is about a 120-mile drive northwest from Little Rock.
