Missing nonverbal boy, 5, found dead in pond behind family’s home, Georgia police say
The search for a nonverbal boy who went missing from his family’s Atlanta-area home came to a tragic end, Georgia authorities said.
Divers found Indi Bullock’s body Friday, March 28, in a retention pond behind the Reflections on Sweetwater Apartments where he lived in Lawrenceville, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
The 5-year-old, who police said was nonverbal, went missing at about 4:25 p.m. on March 27 after hopping over a balcony at his family’s apartment.
Gwinnett County police and emergency management personnel, with help from state and local agencies, launched an extensive search that stretched into early Friday in hopes of finding the missing child.
“Several Gwinnett Police K9s units searched during the evening, overnight and early morning hours with the assistance of the Gwinnett Search Team,” police said hours after Indi went missing. “The Georgia Department of Natural Resources utilized a remotely operated submarine with cameras for four to five hours searching a retention pond in the area.”
Officials also used helicopters, drones and thermal imaging during the search for the boy.
“We express our sincere gratitude to all the departments and agencies involved in the search operations,” the department said.
Police said foul play is not suspected, but an autopsy will determine Indi’s official cause of death.
