A former medical assistant accused of posing as a nurse and sexually assaulting over a dozen women is now going to prison, Pennsylvania reports say.

Ramon Garcia, who faced sexual assault accusations from 13 women, was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison on Monday, March 24, after accepting a plea deal, according to KYW.

Garcia will also be required to register as a sex offender, WTXF reported.

Garcia’s attorney, Paul Lang, said during a preliminary hearing in May that his client was remorseful for his alleged actions, according to WCAU.

“This is the first step in my client’s path to redemption,” Lang said.

McClatchy News reached out to Lang for further comment on March 26 and was awaiting a response.

“This defendant, who was not a nurse, took advantage of the trust that patients extend to true medical professionals by assaulting and violating them,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said in April 2024. “I commend these victims — as well as the first two victims who came forward— for having the courage to go to police to share what happened to them.”

Garcia was arrested in March 2024 when two women accused him of violating them at Carbon Health Urgent Care in Jenkintown, according to the Abington Township Police Department.

One victim said she went to the urgent care for a “pre-employment drug screening” and was met by Garcia, police said. Garcia informed the woman that she was “randomly selected to ‘be observed’” while she urinated into a cup.

After he watched her urinate, Garcia gave the patient his phone number and “asked if she would go on date with him,” police said.

Days later, a second woman came forward and said she was “inappropriately touched” by Garcia during an exam, according to police.

Garcia identified himself as a nurse and conducted a pelvic exam on the patient, police said.

As a medical assistant, his duties included “signing in patients, taking vital signs and, if directed by a physician, to take blood samples,” according to police. He was not allowed to “conduct examinations or observe urine sample tests.”

Within a month, a dozen more women came forward, alleging Garcia sexually assaulted them while pretending to be a nurse, the district attorney said.

Prosecutors said his actions included performing vaginal exams on patients, performing “a hands-on breast exam,” watching patients undress and secretly photographing and recording patients as they were in exam rooms or bathrooms.

He was also accused of giving his phone number to some of the victims and making “inappropriate comments” about their bodies.

After the second series of charges were filed, Carbon Health called the accusations “shocking” and told WCAU that Lang was no longer employed with the company.

Lauren Marvel, the assistant chief of trials with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, told KYW the victims “were glad to close this chapter” after Garcia’s sentencing.

“They were excited to tell us about the strength that they’ve found through this process,” Marvel told the news outlet. “They found support in the process of working with us and in working with the criminal justice system. They felt validated in having their voices heard.”

Jenkintown is a northern suburb of Philadelphia.
