Man wrapped missing woman’s body in tarp, then left her on road, West Virginia cops say
A 59-year-old man is charged in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found wrapped in tarp along a road in West Virginia, police said.
The body, identified as 36-year-old Belinda Riffle, was found March 17 along a rural road in Braxton County, WCHS reported. At the time, West Virginia State Police said foul play was suspected.
“The location that she was found at was a pretty rural area of Braxton County, a single-lane dirt road,” Trooper A.L. Groves told the outlet. “We believe her body had been placed there on purpose.”
An investigation determined Riffle’s last known location was at a home in Clay County belonging to 59-year-old Christopher Lacy, WDTV reported.
Lacy told police he found Riffle dead in his home, then wrapped her in a tarp and found a place to leave her body, the outlet reported.
Lacy was subsequently arrested March 21, WOWK reported.
He is charged with concealment of a deceased human body and death resulting from failure to render aid while engaged in illegal use of controlled substance, according to Braxton County court records. His bond is set at $150,000.
Braxton County is about a 70-mile drive northeast from Charleston.
