Rachelle Steiner’s memories of her home on the shores of Lake Tahoe are as expansive as the views from the deck.
“The property is truly a sanctuary where I can have my coffee on an outcropping overlooking the lake and feel totally peaceful, ethereal, listening to the water lapping on the shore, birds with their morning calls, and squirrels busying themselves for the day without another person in sight,” she said in an email to the Sacramento Bee.
At other times, the retreat is buzzing with people and entertainment.
“That same day it can be a playful memory-generating family compound filled with sports, games and laughter while on another day it can be a host to more than a hundred guests for dinner and dancing under the stars amongst the towering pines,” she said.
The extraordinary Lake Tahoe residence — nestled along a broad expanse of shoreline on 5.47 acres — has hit the market for $65 million.

Whispering Pines
Dubbed Whispering Pines, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom estate spans 8,200 square feet. The property is the most expensive home for sale on the lake in Nevada, according to Zillow. If it sold close to the asking price, the compound would best the record-breaking $62 million sale in Incline Village in 2024.
Of all Nevada properties, the 130-acre Shakespeare Ranch along the eastern shoreline of Lake Tahoe is the most expensive listing, at $188 million.
“Whispering Pines at Glenbrook is an iconic estate,” listing agent Jean Merkelbach of Engel & Völkers Lake Tahoe told the Sacramento Bee via email.
The property’s private coves allow for swimming in calm waters. There’s access to a shared pier.
The estate, 1806 Highway 50 in Glenbrook, Nevada, also comes with a private pool and spa, tennis and pickleball courts and a three-hole golf course. The course comes with one tee box where players hit golf balls over the swimming pool, according to the property listing.
The main residence is designed to frame awe-inspiring views of the lake and surrounding mountain peaks. The home offers expansive living spaces, soaring ceilings, and walls of glass that “dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, immersing you in Tahoe’s ever-changing beauty,” the property listing states.

Guest house included
The grounds include a charming guest house.
Steiner, the seller, is a retired psychiatrist. She was married to Wayne Prim, a lawyer, venture capitalist and philanthropist, who died in 2024 at the age of 97. He was also involved in real estate development. Steiner said her husband’s “primary love was building beautiful homes.”
When Prim bought the waterfront land in the late 1980s, only a 1940s one-bedroom home stood on the property, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported on the listing. He converted the small home into a guesthouse, then built the main house in 1989.
Steiner told The Bee she will always have fond memories from the shores of Lake Tahoe.
“My son held his wedding on the property,” she said. “It was a magical day from the ceremony lakeside at sunset, cocktail hour on the deck, and reception with dinner and dancing in a sheer tent under the stars. (The event) was unforgettable for my family and our guests. I will treasure my time there.”

The Lake Tahoe estate has four bedrooms. A waterfront Lake Tahoe home with its own small golf course could set a Nevada record.
